NON-INFECTIOUS DISEASES
Non-infectious diseases are those which cannot be passed from
one person to another. These conditions are often linked to lifestyle, the
environment or internal abnormalities
Nutritional - either too high (obesity, toxicity) or too little
(anorexia, deficiency diseases)
Aging - natural breakdown of maintenance systems in the body
-> less able to repair damage
Cancer - uncontrolled cell division -> lack of proper cell
function
Inherited
genetic
- in the genes - passed on through parents
congenital - present
from birth
Psychological (mental) - variety of causes (genetic, chemical
imbalance, environmental)
Metabolic - chemical imbalance eg. diabetes
Environmental - poisons and toxins eg. PCBs, asbestos, carbon,
drugs, alcohol
