New 'Flu gives Cavroadia the Blues
Health authorities have identified a new viral infection which is striking
down Cavroadians.
While the exact cause of this illness has yet to be positively identified,
a large number of people have been unable to return to school or work after
the September holidays.
The condition manifests itself as a feeling of dizzyness which can sometimes
lead to afflicted individuals finding it difficult to stand. In extreme
cases, sufferers may experience nausea and vomitting.
Local General Practitioner Dr Ferdie Goh told The Curious Snail that
a large number of viral infections could affect the sense of balance.
"If the virus makes its way into the inner ear, via the tubes connecting
the throat to the middle ear, it can upset the semi-circular canals which
help us maintain our balance," he said.
"Unfortunately, like all viral infections, there is very little we can
do to treat the disease. A few day's bed rest should be enough to allow
the immune system to catch up with it."
In addition to taking it easy, Dr Goh recommended that sufferers of the
condition avoid driving or using heavy equipment.
