Outbreak Lesson #6
Now that the causative
agent of the Cavroadian Crow Outbreak has been isolated and identified,
the disease must now be brought under control. One possible option is the
development of a vaccine.
Your task in this lesson is to find the best way of developing a vaccine
against the bacterium which has caused the outbreak. You must research ways
that vaccines are produced against other diseases and write a brief report
which describes the process most appropriate for this case.
Some items you might wish to consider :
- The agent is a bacterium
- You have a limited
timeframe in which to produce and test the vaccine
The sites below may help you
in your quest for information. Please do not feel limited to these sites
- you may even wish to use books, magazines or other sources of information.
Make sure you reference any materials properly.

Be careful about the sites which
you choose to use. While many people hold fears about the safety of vaccines,
sites which advise people not to immunise their children are not likely to
provide truly impartial information on vaccine production.
This activity is quite challenging and involves quite a bit of judgement
and decision making on your part. As a result, it will form part of the "Complex
Reasoning" component of your mark.
